Winter Wildlife Tracking

Come and explore a winter wonderland. Let’s go outdoors and see who else is visiting our forests and back yards it amazing what you'll see and what you'll hear out there. What do the animals eat out there? Where do they sleep? What do they do all day long? Let’s find out together. Bring a Journal & pen. We'll also discuss survival skills, fire building and Leave No Trace (LNT). If you have a Tree, Tracks, forest Id books please bring them. Parents are welcome observers or participants. Dress casual and warm. Bring a water bottle, snack and lunch.
Snow Shoeing or Cross Country Skiing

That’s right YOUR CHOICE we'll have the instructors and guides ready for either activity. learn how to Snowshoe or Cross Country Ski, Gear, how to put them on, turn, stop and ski at a relaxed pace learn about the environment you’re in. If the opportunity arises then maybe some tracking and much more, we use a 500 acre Maple Sugar Farm with Maple Sugar products for sale, in the beautiful Berkshires. It offers great views and gentle rolling hills, fire place and new dining area. Includes Instruction, gear and a Hot Cocoa, Tea

Ice Fishing with expert, winter anglers, Held at TMO Base Camp

Checkout winter fishing here on TMO's Lake. WHAT you've never been Ice Fishing. What’s a jigging stick? What’s a Tip up? How do you dig a hole in the Ice to fish in? Learn by doing. Then don't miss your chance. Experience a whole new different way to fish, we'll explain what goes on with fish in the winter, Biology, Habitat and the different methods of catching & releasing them, what baits to use. Then a warm fire to have hot drinks by. I can't wait.

The Thinking Game: Map & Compass Orienteering Skills Part 1.

Orienteering is fast becoming a favorite sport which brings lots of new people to the outdoors but no amount of modern day technology will be replacing the lifesaving skills used with a basic map and compass. For when the batteries run out!. Being able to read a map and compass is vital to your outdoor survival skills. During this four-hour program we will teach each student the basics of orienteering. They will become familiar with compass terminology, degree readings, taking bearings, and pacing off distances and independently complete a beginner level course on site before the end of the day. Meets at TMO. Parents are welcome observers or participants. Dress casual and warm (sturdy boots or snowshoes are preferred). Bring a water bottle, snack and lunch.
TMO is running a sequential learning program of ALPs classes for
14 - 18 year old Boys & Girls.
This is a fun family friendly program that builds off of each previous program in order for you to gain the needed skills and confidence to successfully complete the wilderness portion of our TMO Homeschoolers ALPs program.
